Situated on an ancient Roman site, Fort Carré has
looked over Port Vauban for more than four-and-a-half centuries.
One of the great historical treasures of Antibes, Fort Carré is
now open to the public. Classed a historic monument in 1906
and 1913, it was placed in a protection zone in 1937, and bought
by the town in 1997.
A walk through the park goes through an unspoilt, protected
area of flora and fauna, with a superb panoramic view of the
old town and the fortifications built by the architect Vauban
in the 17th century. The talk informs visitors of the astonishing
history of the site, and the major changes in this imposing
military architecture.
