Restructuring work has started on Boulevard Leclerc and Avenue Barquier

Extensive restructuring work started on the area at the end of Boulevard Albert 1er on the corner of Boulevard Leclerc and Avenue Barquier on January 7 and is scheduled for completion at the beginning of April. This section of road is important as it links old Antibes, the town centre and Ponteil and Salis beaches, various businesses are situated here and everyone loves the stroll along the Promenade du Bastion with its glorious sea view.

The roadworks between Boulevard Leclerc and Avenue Barquier are to improve pedestrian access, develop business activity, reorganise parking and open up the sea view.
In conjunction with the restructuring work programme in the area, which started with restoration work on the Levy and Albert 1er squares, the council is to enlarge pavements in front of restaurants and shops by removing parallel parking and replacing it with a more aesthetically pleasing raised area for 36 vehicles.
At the same time, street lighting is to be modernised. Light fixtures the same as those installed in the children’s play area illuminate the surroundings in a more attractive way. Electric, gas and water networks are to be moved and strengthened. The landscaping is to be improved by planting of tamarisks. Pavements are to be surfaced in red with wide cream cement borders.

Approved final phase

The final phase of the urban modernisation restructuring work in the area is in concertation with residents and businesses who understand that the roadworks on Boulevard Leclerc and Avenue Barquier are necessary to make the area more attractive. It should be noted that until completion of roadworks, restaurant customers have no access to restaurant terraces, traffic and parking is forbidden except for residents, one-way traffic on Avenue Maizières between Boulevard Albert 1er and Barquier is in the opposite direction and the traffic lights at Boulevard Albert 1er and Maizières are being modified.
