Ready to combat the snow!

People in Antibes have never forgotten the unusual heavy snowfall which paralysed the town in 1985. Since this time, the council has had emergency measures in place during the winter season should such a freak event reoccur. The Antibes Civil Protection Service has a rented snow-plough at its disposal.

The Civil Protection Service Snow Plan is a mobilisation programme to deal with heavy snowfall. Should there be an alert by the National Service weather forecasting office; the plan would be put in action.

A Civil Protection Service mobilisation would go ahead at this juncture.

The Civil Protection Service coordinates with other municipal services to put the plan into action.

For example, if the temperature goes down to 0°C, the most important roads are salted as a safety measure by salt and sanding machines from the Beaches Department. If the snow starts to fall heavily, measures are in place to clear main roads and those leading to the hospital, the Police Station and the Gendarmery.

It is to be ready for snowy and hazardous conditions during winter that the council has rented the 150 horse-power New Holland snow plough capable of clearing heavy snowfall from the roads.
