A new children’s playground for 3 to 8 year-olds in Saint Claude

Many parents, in particular those who live in Saint Claude, are delighted that a new children’s playground is about to open on land close to the school. Children coming out of school can walk just a few steps with their parents to play and relax at tea time.

The children’s playground is to open before summer 2009 and is for 3 to 8 year-old children. The council is to construct it on land made available by the Erilia company (1).

The playground is to be equipped with playing frames for learning to climb on a soft surface that complies with safety regulations. Benches are to be placed around the area for rest and relaxation.
The children’s playground will be securely enclosed to prevent children getting out. The estimated cost of the project is 32,500 euros.

Securely regulated and tested areas

Like the other 46 public children’s playgrounds and 253 sets of frames and games equipment, the playground is to be regularly checked and tested. Some three levels of testing are in place. One is a daily check by teams who maintain the children’s playgrounds. Another more intensive check takes place every three months by a children’s playground equipment technician.
The third check is every year and an audit is carried out by an independent study unit which checks all council children’s playgrounds. The council is diligent in its pursuit of safety measures for all areas used by small children and has the right to dismantle or condemn any children’s playground equipment it considers defective or dangerous for children.
