Hidden away in Place Nationale is Scene sur Mer café theatre, where the shows are full of gentle humour, sometimes ironic or whacky and occasionally farcical but always a delight.
Theatre Antibea which has a seating capacity of 120 produces classical and contemporary plays by professional companies and new, young, talented groups throughout the year, as well as staging various events, drama courses and reading workshops.

Café theatre Scene sur mer. What? You don’t know it ? Well, you’ll find it in a room full of bric-à-brac. Situated in place Nationale, the theatre has 50 seats. Posters of previous shows decorate the walls, and vinyl records, bric-à-brac and old costumes give off the comforting aroma of eternity. The small theatre stages all types of shows, courses, painting exhibitions, and regular events such as the Encourage the Young Company shows and theatre games weeks. Soak up the atmosphere of the theatre as the curtain rises and get ready for a treat … on with the show!
Created by Monette Candela who directs the Theatre de la Marguerite, she decided to set up her own venue after much touring. Since 1991, the Theatre de la Marguerite has constantly proved that a rich theatre life is possible in Antibes Juan-les-Pins and that the theatre responds to a real demand, the high quality shows attracting an audience from around the department.
Isa Déon has just closed the 2005/2006 season in brilliant fashion at Café theatre Scene sur Mer. She returns in August with Manuel Pratt and Joelle Domecq.

Situated in an ancient chapel in the heart of the old town, Theatre Antibea was entirely renovated in 2002, increasing its capacity to 120 seats. It is the home of the Antibes Antibea Comedy, which was formed in 1989. A loyal following attend the varied programme of plays by professional companies in the department, the PACA region and all of France, with English, American and Swedish productions included in the programme. There are also drama courses, youth matinees and readings by contemporary authors.
